Guys, on the economic front things are really bad in the US. It has become an everyday story that someone or the other has shot himself and his family because they have been thrown out of their jobs. Everyday I keep reading about some company or the other announcing job cuts to the tune of thousands of personnel. Just yesterday I read a report which said that America has lost nearly 4 million jobs in 2008 and will lose even more in 2009. Gawd!

Well, all I can say is that the current faceoff between these two dates back to a about a year or so when SRK was being compared to Big B. Though they did act in a couple of movies together they did not become the best of friends, to put it mildly. And then Amitabh committed one of the biggest blunders by not calling SRK for Abhishek’s wedding.

Vijender Singh is unhappy, and quite justifiably so, as some of us would say. You see, both him and wrestler Sushil Kumar have not been included in the list of Padma Awardees which was announced on the eve of Republic Day recently. And I agree with him. I really do not understand that when Abhinav Bindra can be awarded one why can’t these two be? Haven’t they too done India proud by winning medals in Beijing Olympics?

Is it wrong for a girl to drink in a bar? Is it wrong for a girl to accompany a boy to a bar or a pub? Does she have to take permission from these so called ‘Moral Policemen’ before she indulges in it? Those are a few basic questions we need to answer before we start calling ourselves a ‘Progressive Society’.

I really got a bad scolding from my mom today. I had just forgotten to call her up during the last ten days or so when Manish was away for a few days (again!) and as with every mom with two kids I really was busy up to my neck. Not to mention this blog also which takes up a minimum of a couple of hours everyday. And so in the midst of all this I just forgot to give her a call. And quite rightly I got a mouthful from my mom today.

‘Pakistan has been treated unequally by the US’. That’s what General Pervez Musharraf said when he spoke to CNN’s Wolf Blitzer on the role of Pakistan in the ‘war on terror’. He goes on to add that US abandoned Pakistan after Russians were forced out of Afghanistan in 1989. Well, come to think of it, that’s partly true. Isn’t it? After their aim was achieved US just left these guys with all the Mujaheedin and all the weapons that were given to them to fight the Russians.

3.8 million dollars, if you are keen. What the hell has our world come to! What kind of parents allow their daughters to do something like this? The story goes something like this. This young girl, supposedly Natalie Dylan from California, USA, is ready to sell her virginity online. She has received many bids but the highest one is that of an Australian who is ready to pay her 3.8 million dollars for it. And it’s not over yet. The bidding is still on.

I know I spoke about ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ being a British movie some time back in my post ‘Slumdog Millionaire: Don’t get too carried away!’ and I still stand by what I said. The point to be noted here is that the music by AR Rahman is purely Indian. There’s nothing British about it, or ‘Western’ for that matter. And same goes

Yes we can. That’s what Obama would like the Americans to believe and work for. Make no mistake, if the tenor of Obama’s speech was any indication it is going to be one hard task to achieve, not just for Obama himself but for Americans in general as well. Undoubtedly, his speech was full of confidence and hope for the future. But that wasn’t really unexpected. What it did lack was plain rhetoric and symbolic statements for the historians and media to quote and mark this historic day.

The logo over here may be of Times now but whatever I’m going to say applies to all the news channels, both English as well as Hindi. They all need to get their priorities right in the first place. They need to stop sensationalizing every issue. Sure sensationalism sells but if only money was their sole aim they’d be better off doing something more productive than this.

I really wonder on what grounds are Lalus and Mulayams protesting against the Women's Bill. Their argument, is unconvincing and shaky. Even ideally, if for a moment, we think that poor Dalit women were to be indeed elected I'd damned if our highest governing bodies were to be made up of women who are absolutely illiterate and work as maids or do some such menial jobs. I really do not have anything against them but they do not have the aptitude or ability for this job, not as of now at least. As for my maid, I'm thankful to God if she completes my household chores satisfactorily, leave aside managing the country. .....
