Archive for February, 2009

They don’t like people to speak too much. Be it communist, military or even democracy, no govt likes their countrymen to speak too much. Ever since people started blogging on the internet these govts realized that it was a major tool available to commoners which could be used to whip up public opinion, in many cases against them as well. And they could never allow that.

Yeah, that’s right. Danny Boyle himself said in an interview with Times of India that Slumdog Millionaire is a British film. It’s in today’s newspaper under the title ‘It’s a British film, really’ by Meena Iyer of Times News Network. Significantly, when I tried to search for this article on their website I did not find it.

Why are we all getting carried away with Slumdog Millionaire? For a moment just forget about these awards and tell me if you guys even knew about this movie before it was flashed around as a winner? What’s so great about this that the entire country has gone bonkers over it? Why is every news channel and every newspaper touting this as an Indian victory because it’s most definitely not?

It’s February and so the most important thing going on in our lives at the moment are Mansie’s exams. Yeah, she’s just in the IInd grade but so what? Exams are exams. IInd grade or graduation. You have to prepare for it. More so when your child thinks she knows everything whereas she doesn’t.

Yeah, that’s right in my opinion the Pak army and their Govt may be justified in striking a deal with terrorists. I’m sure you guys are surprised, to say the very least. And that too coming from an Indian? I gotta be crazy to say something like this. But read again, I say that they may be justified in striking a deal. I never said that it is the correct thing to do. Get the difference between these two things? Even if you don’t, just read on. I have some very solid reasons to say all this.

Information is money. That’s an old adage. We all know it. A few of us practice it as well. The question here is: Is Facebook among those practicing it? Or rather does it have the right to use your information for any other purpose than it is intended for? This is the question which has been raised by Mr Chris Walters in his blog The Consumerist.

I don’t understand numbers. No I don’t. But I do have some common sense which tells me that our interim Finance Minister has given us nothing in this budget. He says that the UPA did not have the mandate to do so. But tell me Mr Mukherjee, isn’t your govt going to be in office for next three to four months more?

Have you guys heard of this one? It wasn’t in the main news any where but I happened to read it in the tidbits some where and I was like - What the hell? It was a complete shocker. For those of you who do not know what this is all about here’s how it all started. In May 08 Amir Khan in his blog said

Capt “Sully” saved 150 lives when he landed his plane safely in Hudson river whereas the pilot of Continental Connection flight (name of this pilot has not been released, for obvious reasons) “killed” 50 people. One pilot went beyond the call of duty to save lives and the other one did not do his basic job as a result of which 50 innocents lost their lives.

This is the story of Alfie Patten, a 13 year old boy in UK (although he looks more like an 8 year old). He’s like any other 13 year old but just that that he’s dad too. The mum is a 15 year old girl Chantelle Steadman. When asked about this the boy said that he thought ‘it would be good to have a baby’. Good to have a baby when you yourself are just 13? What kind of a 13 year old says that? What kind of parents allow this sort of behavior? And just how did all this happen in the first place?

Out of hundreds of allegations of fake encounter deaths why is the focus of our entire nation on Sohrabuddin and Amit Shah? Is it because a fake encounter of a Muslim is a different story than that of a Hindu? And that too because it happened in Narendra Modi's Gujarat? Why is the CBI investigating only this case and not so many others where the guilty are quite likely from the Congress party? What about numerous allegations of fake encounters in Andhra Pradesh? What about the prosecution of Jagdish Tytler and Sajjan Kumar in Sikh riots case? What about Ottavio Quattrochi?.....
