Most of the countries which permit gay activities are basically from Americas (North and South) and Europe, though not all. What I want to say is that it is predominantly the Christian white countries where this is legal. In India, while Deobandis say that Islam does not permit homosexual behavior I would like to point out that there are Muslim countries like Iraq (since 2003), Bahrain (since 1976–Gosh!!!!), Jordan (1951—-Would you believe this?), Indonesia and Malaysia, where this is legal.

Can any of you imagine women working in corporate offices wearing a Burqa? Can you imagine women fighting elections wearing a Burqa? Can you imagine a woman flying an airplane wearing a Burqa? Can you imagine a woman playing golf wearing a Burqa? Can you imagine a woman teaching in college wearing a Burqa? Can you imagine a woman doing military service wearing a Burqa? Can you imagine a Prime Minister or a President or just an ordinary minister wearing a Burqa?

A person who started off as symbol of hope and change ended up as a symbol of despair and self destruction. The world today is surely mourning his death but in times to come I believe his contribution to music and entertainment will always be hyphenated with his eccentricities and pedophile allegations. A life which could have gone on to achieve what no one else in the music world could was wasted away and cut short. No, he didn’t deserve to die when he was just 50. Not this way.

Most of you guys would have been shocked yesterday to hear the news of Sarabjit’s petition being turned down by Pakistan’s Supreme Court. Well, don’t be, because after this now there is only one person in Pakistan who has the authority to over rule the Supreme Court’s verdict. His name is Asif Ali Zardari. And that, my dear friends, is the whole game plan.

Do you guys remember the scene from Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge where Farida Jalal tells her daughter that even in this age a woman is not equal to a man, wherever you may be? And that they never will be either? Well, even though the movie is more than fifteen years old the saying is still correct. Women are not equal to a man. Reasons for this are far too many to start counting. But what is worth talking about are the ways in which the Indian society in general and the Indian govt in particular treat women and are both guilty of subjugating women in ways that are typical of the Indian mindset.

Now here’s what I think happened. Firstly I partly agree with Anupam that Shiney is not a rapist, not a conventional rapist at least. I don’t think it was a case of Shiney attacking the maid just because she was alone in the house with him. To me it seems that both Shiney and the maid had a liking for each other and they must have engaged in ‘innocent’ romance on the sly in the past few days.

Well, it was just a few days back that our Prime Minster, Mr Manmohan Singh spoke in the parliament and said that there will be no talks till such time Pakistan takes some action to control the terror groups operating from within Pakistan. And now he has done the exact opposite and met Asif Zardari in Russia and had a chat for good about 45 minutes. What I do not understand is why the hell did he meet him?

Amongst all the chaos created by the Indian Cricket Team and Shiney Ahuja we nearly missed this one about Begum Fiza. Remember, she created a big furore when Chand Mohammad just dumped her and vanished. There were reports that she even tried to commit suicide. Off course, she recovered and then called for press conferences where she read out love messages stored on her phone.

I possibly can’t talk of anything else today. I’m filled with anger, frustration and disappointment at the way our team lost consecutive matches, first against West Indies and now England, with the result that they are now out of the T20 World Cup. Pathetic display of cricket by the team, especially in the game against England. Examples of lousy play were there for all to see. Be it lousy bowling by Ishant Sharma or misfield by Yuvraj or pathetic batting by Gambhir, Raina, Rohit or even by Dhoni himself.

When I wrote this post Why did Prabhakaran die on 18 May? I did not know that it will generate so much of interest. But it did. Some for good and some for bad reasons too. I’m not sure why but few Tamils (I think so) got this impression that I was against them and their cause in Sri Lanka. So much so that someone wrote lousy stuff in their comments(in Tamil) which was brought to my notice by one of the readers

TOP POST

Out of hundreds of allegations of fake encounter deaths why is the focus of our entire nation on Sohrabuddin and Amit Shah? Is it because a fake encounter of a Muslim is a different story than that of a Hindu? And that too because it happened in Narendra Modi's Gujarat? Why is the CBI investigating only this case and not so many others where the guilty are quite likely from the Congress party? What about numerous allegations of fake encounters in Andhra Pradesh? What about the prosecution of Jagdish Tytler and Sajjan Kumar in Sikh riots case? What about Ottavio Quattrochi?.....
