Are you creative?

February 15th, 2010

If you really ask me I’m a very creative person. Creativity is like a part of me especially after marriage. It’s second nature, so to speak. We would be rather naive if among the numerous confabulations which reverberate in our monotonous regimen we chose not to coagulate our symptomatic priorities in our subconscious existence so as to mitigate any conflicting preponderances which may permeate to vitiate our environment. PHEW!!!! What a thought! Don’t even bother trying to understand what it means. It was just meant to show how creative I am. Well, to be fair most women are. Men are creative too but it is women whose creativity is tested throughout the day, day in and day out. Actually they have no option but to be creative.

Thats creativity for sure

Thats creativity for sure

The first test of creativity is when the husband asks - What’s for breakfast? The answer to that question lies whether the wife forgot being creative the previous evening when she should’ve made preparations for breakfast or not. If she indeed did forget the next thirty minutes are a big test of her creativity when she has to prepare a meal with whatever is available at home. On most occasions it would be a parantha with a butter and some vegetable left over from last night but some women think out of the box. They knead the vegetable in the dough and then make paranthas out of it and serve it with cream which is readily available. Now thats creativity. Or even bread rolls made out of left over vegetables. You may say- What non sense. Thats hardly creativity. But if you really think that women have to do this every day of their lives without a break and yet be different each day you’ll see what I mean.

First test of creativity

First test of creativity

The second test of creativity is when you have to make your eight year old (mine is eight) eat what you have made. Invariably she asks- Momma, why can’t I have Maggie? Or why can’t I have a sandwich? The answer to that question is again a test of your creativity. A simple answer would be - Baby, you had a sandwich yesterday only or Maggie is not exactly healthy for you. But those are mundane replies which are not just non creative but unconvincing for the child as well. A creative and different reply would be something like- Baby, would you like so much food to go waste when there are so many children in this world who don’t get food to eat OR would it be okay if Momma gives you what you like in the evening when you come back from the park? Or even something like God is watching you wasting your food and He is getting angry with you. And if you really want to think out of the box then you can say - You are a role model for your little sister and she’s watching you not listening to Momma. If you don’t listen to me she too will not listen to you when you want her to do something. And you have to be ready with such creative replies everyday.

The next creativity comes when you have to decide the route of least resistance which you should take to reach the market. I mean, Delhi is a mad house as far as traffic is concerned. If you mess up on this issue be rest assured that you can be stuck in traffic for hours on end. And therefore the need to be creative. You can do that by checking it up on FM radio or even from the traffic police. Don’t be surprised, guys. I’ve done that on number of occasions and believe you me it helps, the traffic police part. Didn’t I tell you that I’m creative?

Call to traffic police can help you to avoid these.

Call to traffic police can help you to avoid these.

Another daily creative requirement arises when you have to invent bed time stories for your children every day. The number of bhalus and monkeys that I’ve created so far is not exactly funny. And these bhalus and monkeys are no ordinary creatures. They are all gifted with a special quality of delivering a moral message every day through their actions. I mean, I’ve literally run out of moral messages here. Not just this my bhalus are fantastic batsmen who can sing, dance and do acrobatics while monkeys are good bowlers, come first in races and are excellent in English oratory. And all this while they all do very well in their studies too. And if the question is- How do they manage to do all this? The answer is a rather simple one- Because they listen to their Momma. Now don’t try and find logic in that statement. There isn’t any. But its a fact and thats the way it is for my kids. Anyone who listens to his or her Momma is good and will do well in life. Read it again guys, its not a bad message after all.

There are many other creative calls in a women’s life as well which I’ve not really talked of. Like deciding on a menu for a meal (apart from breakfast which is a hurried affair as I said earlier). And if any of you guys (And I literally mean guys here) feel that I’m kidding, please take on this job for week and you’ll see for yourself if you have any creative instincts in you or not. The only thing to be kept in mind is that a dish cannot be repeated within that week. I can actually hear some of you guys saying- Whats the big deal? Well, if that be so, please try it out. And let me know how it went.

Some of you may say that this is hardly creativity. Its more like being efficient. Well firstly, thank you much (I’m so humble!!! HA!HA!) and secondly, efficiency is more appropriate in like running an office or may be a grocery store. If you feel creative is not the right adjective call me innovative, imaginative, fanciful, inventive or even constructive, if you please. It is just that that all these are more or less synonyms of each other. But tell you what? My husband does appreciate this virtue of mine and he agrees that I’m indeed very creative. OH MY HUMILITY!!!!

But don’t forget people that when I’m talking about being creative I imply the entire women population of this world who go through this. So the next time you gals fix a good meal take a minute and thank your creative instincts and let your family know how creative you are. Otherwise they don’t really feel it is important to appreciate the woman of the house, as you might have seen for yourself.

Confabulation is a systematic degradation of abysmal reflection in metabolism of organic species which is problematic to meandering souls of lesser mortals who oscillate seamlessly between neo realism and neo spiritualism to obviate their own misgivings which they perpetually accumulate to justify their existence. See- I'm creative too.

My instincts of creativity are the way I fool my parents into giving me more money. The way I sneak out of our house late at night is also very creative. MEN ARE ALSO CREATIVE- YOU SEE. But in different ways than women.

What you said about women also holds good for men who live alone or are not married. I live with my father and younger sis for whom I have to cook. Everyday is a new challenge for me. I really have to scratch my brains to keep preparing new stuff for my sis and pop. Though my father is very understanding but what do I tell my sis? She's just nine. If you consider that I also have a job you will see what I have to go through everyday.

Point well taken. I did not realize the effort that was needed to cook until I went to the US as a graduate student. I had to cook and clean for years by myself. I still am not a good cook but I now appreciate the "cook" a lot more than I did in the past.

Out of hundreds of allegations of fake encounter deaths why is the focus of our entire nation on Sohrabuddin and Amit Shah? Is it because a fake encounter of a Muslim is a different story than that of a Hindu? And that too because it happened in Narendra Modi's Gujarat? Why is the CBI investigating only this case and not so many others where the guilty are quite likely from the Congress party? What about numerous allegations of fake encounters in Andhra Pradesh? What about the prosecution of Jagdish Tytler and Sajjan Kumar in Sikh riots case? What about Ottavio Quattrochi?.....
