BJP should’ve highlighted KANDHAHAR

April 26th, 2009
Was BJP responsible for Kandahar?

Was BJP responsible for Kandahar?

Yes, BJP should’ve highlighted KANDAHAR and that too in a big way. Surprised? Yeah, I know you guys are. But I sincerely feel that this could’ve been used to influence the public opinion on the emotional issue of J&K as well as security of the country in general. Well, I can actually hear you guys saying- HOW? Just read on.

To begin with we first have to appreciate the fact that the hijack itself was not the fault of BJP. The plane was hijacked from Nepal. So, if there was a security lapse it was not their fault. Also, it needs to be clearly understood that Kandahar happened because of mishandling of the Kashmir issue by successive Congress govts for over 50 years. That’s the moot point. The BJP govt was a victim of the misdeeds Congress and had to pay a very heavy price for the same. It was the Congress not BJP which failed in Kashmir for more than 50 years. This is the point which should’ve been highlighted to inform the voters of the role of Congress in this affair.

Also, please note that it’s so very easy to blame BJP for releasing those terrorists but I would like to ask those who do so to put themselves in the shoes of BJP and then decide. On one hand you had the families of those 189 passengers crying their hearts out and requesting the govt to help them and on the other you had three terrorists who were potential threats to the country, as they later proved to be. At that moment if BJP decided to save the lives of it’s countrymen, all I can say is that they did it with all their sincerity and with no malice in their hearts. As also, they did not care for any future political repurcussions which might come to haunt them time and again (As has been done repeatedly by Congress in the past and is even being used in the current campainging quite regularly). Even P Chidambaram, our Home Minister has said that if he were to be in that position in 1999 he would not know how to react (You can read his views in The Economic Times dated 23 Jan 09 here). This point should’ve been used by BJP to counter the claims made by various leaders of Congress.

Another thing which could have been done was that those passengers in the flight should have been requested to make an appearance on the media, together. These people could surely be asked to narrate the horrific incidents once again in front of the media. They could also thank the BJP for saving their lives in the manner that they did. I’m telling you guys, it would’ve changed the whole perception of the way people view the Kandahar episode today. TV and newspapers are a very strong medium. The live telecast of such an event would’ve shaken the nation in general and Congress in particular which keeps ridiculing BJP on this issue as if it was their (Congress’s) favorite past time. Also, the Congress party would’ve been taught a good lesson in a manner which they richly deserve to be. But why wasn’t it done? I really don’t know. Ask the BJP. May be they’ll take the hint now. I really hope they do. It’s never too late to act.

Hi Hanif! What's the matter? Can't accept truth or what? Sush is correct in saying this. BJP was a victim of Congress's misrule. There's no harm in granting BJP it's due.

Bakwas. bjp was weak and soft to have releesed terrorists. these murderers have killed more than 189 people (no of passengers) since then and will continue to do so.

It is easy for anybody to criticize if they don't have to act. Those who accuse the BJP on this issue forget that the hijacked plane was taken to the hostile Taliban territory, where the local help was for the terrorists only. Had India tried to send commandos to rescue the hostages there was no guarantee that they would have reached there at all, and if at all they reach it was doubtful that they could in time with the secrecy needed in such operations and the terrorists would have blasted the plane and would have escaped for another action. The whole of India, including those who are now blaming the then BJP government would have held the BJP responsible for the death of those 189 innocent passengers. All of us have been watching hundreds of relatives and friends of the hostages, including congressmen pressing the government for the release of the hostages at any cost. So, the government had practically no alternative but to release the terrorist in return for the lives of the hostages. At that time, the BJP thought only of saving the lives of those hostages. Everything else was considered secondary. In fact, it needs lots of courage to act against what they would have wanted to do, forgetting the shame that would result.

Okay, of all the TV networks which one was the best debate on match fixing? Well, for me it was the one on Times Now where our dear old Bishen Singh Bedi appeared half drunk. At first it seemed like I was mistaken but when he started talking I was more than convinced that he was indeed three or four drinks down, at least. A couple of drinks more and I'm sure Bedi would've told Arnab Goswami," Oye, Chadd Yaar. Tainu Kee? Aye koi nai gall thodi hai. Salon se ho raya hega. CHEERS!!" or words to that effect. But you can't really blame Bedi for this. What do you expect people to be doing at nine in the evening? Good people work through the day and party in the evenings. Don't they? For that matter, Farouq Engineer who was speaking from Manchester, UK where it was around four thirty in the evening, was seen having a huge cup of coffee (or at least that's my guess) because you are supposed to have coffee at that time......
