Come cry with me, my countrymen

December 3rd, 2008

India is bleeding

I’m weeping, literally. I’m weeping because my country is bleeding. I’m weeping because nearly 200 innocent lives have been snuffed out. I’m weeping because my political leaders don’t care for me and my countrymen. I’m weeping because a martyr’s family has been likened to a dog. I’m weeping because I feel expendable. I’m weeping because in the overall scheme of things in my country people like me when they are killed like they were in these attacks, they are just a number which add to body count. I’m weeping because we have politicians who are not only incompetent but have no backbone or remorse either. I’m weeping because RR Patil calls this a small incident. I’m weeping because even in this moment of grief the Chief Minister of Maharashtra Vilasrao Deshmukh tried to cash it all by striking a deal with Ram Gopal Verma to make a movie with his son. I’m weeping because our polity can still not come together to fight this monster. I’m weeping because I know our leaders will go back to their routine of stupid rhetoric and no action in a few months from now.

I know I can keep crying but it will not make a fig of a difference to these thick skinned politicians. It just doesn’t matter to them. Nobody from their family has died. Their life has not changed. They can use this incident to pulverise voters for elections. And that’s exactly what they will do. Even now after Obama has said that a country has a right to defend itself all that these guys have done is issue a demarche to Pakis. Pathetic. If they wanted to do something they should have bombed the training camps of these terrorists by now. But no, they will only try and be as diplomatic as they can be. But haven’t we been doing diplomacy for the last so many decades? Haven’t we tried enough through peaceful means? How many more deaths will we suffer before our govt realises that they need to do something more concrete? Wouldn’t it be better to fight these people and finish off the job once and for all? Isn’t it better than living in fear and shame the way we are living now? I know that they have nuclear weapons. But so do we. They would think a thousand times before using them. They know that their country will be obliterated if they use nukes. But in my heart of hearts I know our govt is spineless. They will not do anything of this sort. They are only buying time before we forget all this and move on. But they are mistaken. We will not forget and we will not forgive.

So, my countrymen, shed a tear or two with me for our fallen and vow not to forget this and not let these politicians also forget this macabre incident.

We must not. This is a case of every second month. Every alternative month, dates are 26 th and 13th next would be 13th jan from now on. So it is better to take strict actions against pakis.

Life is so cheap in our country. There has been so much bloodshed but all our politicians can do is talk, and talk crap. Pranab Mukherjee has been making some noises but I have my doubts they will go any further than this.

I really wonder on what grounds are Lalus and Mulayams protesting against the Women's Bill. Their argument, is unconvincing and shaky. Even ideally, if for a moment, we think that poor Dalit women were to be indeed elected I'd damned if our highest governing bodies were to be made up of women who are absolutely illiterate and work as maids or do some such menial jobs. I really do not have anything against them but they do not have the aptitude or ability for this job, not as of now at least. As for my maid, I'm thankful to God if she completes my household chores satisfactorily, leave aside managing the country. .....
