Danny Boyle says Slumdog Millionaire is a British movie
February 24th, 2009Yeah, that’s right. Danny Boyle himself said in an interview with Times of India that Slumdog Millionaire is a British film. It’s in today’s newspaper under the title ‘It’s a British film, really’ by Meena Iyer of Times News Network. Significantly, when I tried to search for this article on their website I did not find it. Every other article published in today’s newspaper is there on the site but not this one. Quite obviously it has been removed as an after thought to avoid any controversy (read my post Indian media: misplaced sense of priority). But don’t worry I have scanned the damn thing for your benefit. Here it is.
Well, that’s straight from the horse’s mouth. Now there should not be any doubt in anyone’s minds. Even BBC has said that their film has won these awards. You can check this web page of BBC here. Below is a screen shot of this page.
Need more proof, anyone? Any of you guys still feel that it’s indeed an Indian victory? I most certainly don’t. Any body having any more doubts can check my previous post Slumdog Millionaire: Don’t get too carried away! The only matter to actually gloat about is that AR Rehman, Pookutty and Gulzar won Oscars in recognition of their individual brilliance. That’s indeed commendable, especially AR Rehman who is truly a genius. I’d written about them in my post Heartiest congratulations to AR Rehaman & Gulzar.
Now, don’t feel too bad guys. A fact is a fact. We’ve to accept realities. Nonetheless, anyone still feeling very strongly about this issue can say so. Right guys?

Bullshit! It's surely the biggest Indian victory so far. I don't believe one bit of this. Shame on you.

Some interesting thoughts here. Are you confident this is the conscientious way to look at it though? My personal experience is that we should pretty much live and let live because what one person surmises as just -- another person simply doesn't. People are going to do what they want to do. In the end, they always do. The best we can wish for is to point out a few things here and there that hopefully, allows them to make just a little better informed decision. Otherwise, great post. You're definitely making me think! --Roland
