Do not talk with Pakis
June 17th, 2009
Well, it was just a few days back that our Prime Minster, Mr Manmohan Singh spoke in the parliament and said that there will be no talks till such time Pakistan takes some action to control the terror groups operating from within Pakistan. And now he has done the exact opposite and met Asif Zardari in Russia and had a chat for good about 45 minutes. What I do not understand is why the hell did he meet him? What was the urgency? Did he meet Zardari because of pressure from US or was it to convey the wishes of the people of this country? And most importantly what has changed in the last few days ever since he spoke in the parliament? These are some very basic questions for which we need immediate answers.
We understand that America wants us to talk to Pakis. We also understand that Pakis are desperate to get to the table. But as far the status on ground is concerned, nothing has changed. If anything, things have worsened when Hafeez Saeed, who is the main accused in Mumbai attacks, was released from the so called ‘prison’ by Paki authorities because of lack of evidence. Quite obviously, the Paki govt prepared a pretty weak case against him despite India having provided them with a mountain of evidence. It once again shows how hollow the claims of Pakis are. And amidst all this when our PM meets Zardari it conveys the wrong message to not just Indians but Pakis as well. Not surprisingly the Pak media is calling a ‘victory of sorts’ and stuff like ‘breaking of ice’. I’d be damned if the ice breaks this way.
On top of this it has also been announced that foreign secretaries of the two countries will meet in end of July just before the NAM summit in Egypt where Manmohan and Zardari will meet again. What the hell is going on? We don’t need their foreign secretary to tell us about what all they have done or are doing. It will be visible to every Tom, Dick and Harry when they indeed do something. Like if they put Hafeez Saeed in jail or someone like Maulana Mehsud Azhar in jail it will be the top headlines of Paki media. So what else can the foreign secretaries say except beat around the bush and give some cock and bull stories which can’t be verified? By having these meetings what does our PM want to convey to Pakis? They would take it as India now agreeing to talks, at whatever level they might be. And that’s exactly the reason why they are calling it some kind of ‘victory’ and ‘breaking of ice’.
I fail to understand why can’t our leaders for once stand up for what is correct instead of bowing down to external pressures and showing the world how weak we are? May be that’s our predicament. To be lead by weak people who don’t give a damn for you and me. What say you? Do you guys feel that we should be talking to Pakis at all at this stage? Was this the mandate given to the Congress by Indians? Or should he be digging in his heels and telling Americans to lay off? Tell me what you think.

Prime Minster Manmohan Singh is right in talking to Zardari. He has conveyed the Indian govt's concerns about terrorists finding safe havens within Pakistan. It shows his maturity and understanding of International relations.

Sush is damn right. v should nt be talking 2 these peeple. they have very clearly laid down a distinction between terrorits who are creating terror in India and taliban. if u see these r two different sets of guys operating from different parts of Pakistan.
On top of that the groups who r operating against Indians are much smaller and have to depend upon Pakistan for survival whereas taliban has grown into a very large monster which threatens 2 consume Pakistan. groups like LeT and JeM are still 2 small 2 be a threat 2 them and so they continue 2 enjoy the support of Pakis.
if Pakis r not doing anything against these terrorists why shud v talk 2 pakis? this is a big mistake.

i think u havent listened to Gen Musharraf during his tour to india...
plz be realistic and see tha facts from both sides...
u cant say dat we are supporting....
if u blame ISI, remember...we can blame RAW....but lets stop the blame game...
u hav got insufficient knowledge regarding wats goin on ground and and thus u are constanly hesitant for table talks...
