Unreserved women
RJD and SP have withdrawn support and their Rajya Sabha MPs have openly said that they will do anything implying physical disruption to stop the bill from being passed. After initial hesitation JD(U) has come around to supporting it thanks to Nitish Kumar. While there is no doubt that Lalu and Mulayam Singh do have a right to protest and they may have some logic in their argument as well but frankly speaking, their protests have very little to do with logic or their good wishes for women of Muslim community or Dalits for that matter, whose cause they seem to be espousing.
Wrong direction of debate
There is yet another facet to this whole debate. While Muslim fundamentalists are quite vocal about their feelings whenever they are offended by something or someone like Taslima Nasreen, they have not spoken about this issue at all. We may say- "How the hell are they bothered? It doesn't really affect them". Yes, it doesn't concern them directly. But hypothetically, if some prominent Muslims like Vice President Hamid Ansari or may be columnist like MJ Akbar or even any Muslim organization were to say that it is incorrect on the part of Hussain to have hurt the feelings of Hindus in such a manner, wouldn't it go a long way in building bridges between the two communities? I think it would. I'm not really sure of Hamid Ansari but MJ Akbar very well can. Lets see if he does. As for Muslim organizations, well, your guess is as good as mine. Nonetheless, this is an opportunity which can be gainfully exploited to serve a bigger purpose.
Insensitivities of MF Hussain
On the face of it any secular person would exonerate MF Hussain from any wrongdoing whatsoever. It would really cringe our hearts if an artist of his caliber were to be prosecuted or harassed in any manner, least of all by Hindu fundamentalists. But thats just on the face of it. If you look deep inside there is indeed a lot for Hindus to really feel bad about the insensitivities on the part of the painter. I would call them insensitivities but you guys are your own judges. So take your pick after reading the post.
Happy Holi!!!!!!!!!
As always, Holi brought a riot of colors not just to our lives but more importantly to our bathrooms as well. Because by the time we finished having our baths today the loos were a complete mess, as you can very well imagine. Even the soaps have become unusable. Hahaha!!! Jokes apart, on a more serious note(?) Holi, though slightly different for us from last time, was great fun nonetheless. I say different because after having moved to our new house it was no longer possible to go to our parent's places because they are rather too far now. Instead, we got together with all our friends and had a blast. All of us assembled in a swimming pool and as you can guess most of us got wet
Shifting gears
Getting into a house is an experience in itself. As soon you enter the new house you feel you are intruding into someone else's domain, as there are still some tell tale signs of the previous occupant. Everything about the house is new and unknown and you look at everything very critically, the first few minutes. Once you move to the bedroom or the kitchen, the two most important parts of any household, your mind automatically starts visualizing where you are going to place what. And as your future bedroom or kitchen virtually appears before you, you start connecting with the house. The condition of the house is another factor which helps in connecting with it. If its neat, the connection is instant, but if on the other hand the house has been left in a shabby condition by the previous occupant, you really take time in envisioning the house as your future abode. I have been quite lucky so far to get clean houses. But then I always make it a point to leave behind a neat and clean house, whenever we shift. So I guess if we do good, somewhere in some form it comes back to you. Having seen the house and deciding to shift in was a very easy job. The real action follows after that....?????? In shifting from one house to another, one does get uprooted for a couple of days, hence the urgency to settle down into the new one.

Indo-Pak talks: Aim achieved
Well, its over and done with. Salman Bashir came to India, met Nirupama Rao, addressed a press conference and went back. No joint statement but just polite handshakes, some smiles and thats it. Well, the meeting achieved what it was supposed to achieve, nothing. Nothing new came out of the meeting. No fresh ideas, no change from respective pre-stated positions, in fact nothing at all to write home about. What we heard were the same old statements emanating from both sides with India harping that terror must stop and Pakistan saying Kashmir first. To be candid it was expected. No body expects anything anymore to come out of Indo-Pak talks, especially this one coming as it did after Mumbai was attacked fourteen months ago. Nonetheless, aim achieved. Yes, aim achieved.

The story of two Gods
I saw one God yesterday. He plays for the Indian cricket team and goes by the name of Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar for lesser mortals like you and me. To expect me to do justice to such a genius in one small post would itself be injustice to both Sachin and me. And in any case Gods don't need us to praise them. If anything it is the other way round. We are the ones who need Gods. You can very well imagine what Indian cricket would've been without this one God.

A case of four ironies.....
It is quite ironical that while we expect Pakistan to act against LeT, JeM and other such terrorist organisations operating from Pakistan to create terror in India our own political leaders are reluctant to act against Maoists who are nothing but terrorists, in my view. They may have a just cause or they may basically be Hindus but their methods are wrong. If killing innocent villagers, govt officials/ policemen and detonating bombs is not terrorism, what is? If this is indeed terror why is our response to these activities any different than what it is against LeT, JeM, HUJI and others? Is it because Maoists are not exactly demanding a separate country, yet? Or is it because they are also fulfilling some political objectives of certain politicians?

To talk or not to talk
After the blast in Pune Congress spokesman Manish Tiwari said that once we had made an offer of talks it is quite possible that terrorists are trying to scuttle it away by creating more trouble between the two countries and this has to be factored in in any decision that we may take now. And that decision has indeed been taken- TALKS WILL GO ON AS PLANNED. What Manish Tiwari and the Congress is yet to factor in is that Pakistan continues to allow its territory to be used by terrorists to scuttle these talks away. All this talk of non state actors is nothing but hogwash which is not going down down well either with India or with international community as such. Also, while India says that terror will be the focal point of talks Pakistan says that no talks will be complete without discussing issues of Kashmir and water, water having been added as a major issue just recently. Also, P Chidambaram had recently made a statement that PoK is very much a part of India. As is obvious there is no meeting ground for these talks between the two countries.
Are you creative?
We would be rather naive if among the numerous confabulations which reverberate in our monotonous regimen we chose not to coagulate our symptomatic priorities in our subconscious existence so as to mitigate any conflicting preponderances which may permeate to vitiate our environment.
The good, bad and ugly
Is there anything called the 'good Taliban'? The answer to that question will depend upon whom are you asking this question from. If you ask Indians, well, all Taliban is bad. If you ask Pakis, most of them are good. If you ask an Afghan- on second thoughts, don't. What Afghans think doesn't really matter, unfortunately. If you happen to ask Americans, their answer will also depend upon when is the question being asked. Till some time back the entire Taliban, possibly along with their kids, women and cattle, was bad for Americans. But times have changed and they now say that some of them are indeed good. But this is not their final position on the matter either. Don't be surprised if they revert back to their earlier position depending upon where their offer of talks with the so called 'good Taliban' leads to.

I'm moving
Now with Aleena being almost 17-odd months old things are a little manageable and everything was going well. We had just got over umpteen parties we attended or had thrown for our friends for Christmas and to welcome the new year. I was just sitting back asking myself when would I get over this feeling of tiredness and sleepless nights when Manish casually asked me if I wanted some change in my life. And I swear, being a fauzi kid, change is something I grew up with. What with change of places, houses, schools, friends, people in general and what not all. Though change is something I thrive on but it is always accompanied by butterflies in my stomach, not for anything else but in anticipation for the unknown. The very idea of something new gives me hope for something good. So, I was game when Manish suggested we move into a bigger house, now that both the girls needed space and I could also do with a separate study. I was actually very happy at the idea of having a study of my own where I could work undisturbed and Mansie and Aleena will not flick my stationary, my table will be untouched and I would find things where I left them.

Mumbai meri jaan
Nearly fifty years ago when Shiv Sena came into being it was on Marathi Manoos plank, basically directed at South Indians within Mumbai at that time. That the agenda has not changed in the last fifty years, though the target has, shows the lack of growth within the party both intellectually and physically. And this despite the fact that they have been in power in the state. Another indicator of their lack of their growth are their strained relations with RSS and BJP, who have quite categorically said that Mumbai belongs to India and not just Mumbaikars. A couple of years ago this would have been unthinkable. Also, it is rather ironical that Shiv Sena is desperately trying to spread it's base into other parts of the country as well. With the kind of approach they have vis-a-vis Mumbai are they implying that their own members who are from outside Maharashtra are not welcome in Mumbai? I mean, wouldn't that be a shame?

Watch your mouth, SRK
The kind of support SRK has drummed up in the last few days is not exactly to his credit. What his supporters have failed to appreciate is that what he said was absolutely inadvertent and at the spur of the moment. After having said this when Shiv Sena picked up those lines there was no way he could've retracted his statement without losing a lot of face not just in the country but abroad as well. And losing face means losing money as his movie My name is Khan is due for release shortly, which is anathema to a businessman like him. Pertinent to mention that Shahrukh's Red Chillies Entertainment is also involved in this movie. Secondly, if he really wanted Pakistani players to play in IPL he would've bid for them in the auction but he didn't.
Move beyond Pachauri
The question here is not just Dr Pachauri or even his ill gotten wealth. The question is of correctness of data. The question is - Whether Copenhagen was a waste of time and money by govts all around the world? The question is - Is the rate at which we are currently emitting and polluting our environment still increase the global temperatures by three degrees by 2050? The question is - Does Maldives and other such small island nations which were considered as being doomed because of melting of glaciers still vulnerable? The question is- How will this 'error' affect the market of climate change especially the rates of carbon credits? Well, those are the question which IPCC needs to answer. Surely, if the planet is not as vulnerable as was being made out rates for carbon credits will nose dive though Indian companies which were making a lot of money through this will suffer. But still we do need answers for these questions.

Ball biting finish
The kind of punishment Afridi has got which is just a ban for two matches I feel ICC has let him off pretty lightly. And I'm not alone who feels that way. Even Inzamam ul Haq has also said the same thing. If ICC really wants to curb this practice they should've been more strict. At the moment this punishment is like ICC is telling Afridi that he was stupid to do it so openly and get caught. Probably they mean that he should be careful when he does this next time. By the way, does this light sentence have anything to do with the match referee being a Sri Lankan, namely Ranjan Madugalle? After all it's case of a non white player.

Padma Awards: What nonsense!!!
Like the last year this year too Padma awards have once again stirred a hornet's nest when the name of Sant Chatwal was included in the list of awardees for Padma Bhushan. Be that as it may group of people who have not been included in this list are the scientists of ISRO who helped discover water on the moon and were part of the Chandrayaan team. But do you know why? Because there is some directive from the govt which says that anyone associated with the govt itself cannot be given this award. And ISRO is govt for sure. Can you guys believe it? A hotelier charged with fraud and tax evasion can be given this award but not our scientists. Pertinent to mention that two govt officials Anil Kakodkar and G Madhavan Nair were indeed given this award while in service but for that special sanction was accorded for this purpose. No such luck for the Chandrayaan team though. Another teeny weeny information on this issue is that the doctor who operated on the PM has been given one of these awards and so has been Venkatraman Ramakrishnan for science, after he has won the Nobel Prize though. As you can see those Nobel guys are better at judging our people than our own govt.
Devil we know better than devil we don't
The Sri Lankan election results don’t really change anything for the Tamils 300,000 of whom are still languishing in camps. Rajapakse has been non committal on the specifics of future course on this issue though he does keep making politically correct statements like rehabilitation of Tamils is being done on priority and that he will continue to do so. But will anything really change for the these people now that he has won the elections? Quite unlikely. If he didn’t do it in the run upto the elections based on which he could’ve sought their votes it would be rather stupid for anyone to expect him to do so now when he doesn’t really need their support. Well, to be candid, he didn’t really need their support before the elections either as the results have proved beyond doubt whose support is actually required to come to office. And it’s not Tamils.
Insecurites of Dragon
Sometime back when I met a Chinese immigrant settled in Austria I asked him if he supported one party rule in his country. He replied that he sure did. "How else do you control 1.3 billion people?", he added. Good point for sure. But he had no answer when I asked him if he indeed supported his country's system of governance why did he have to migrate. To some of us the two issues may not be related to each other. One is about the country as such and the second is about personal growth. And this implies that for some of us the country as such may be okay but it does not really provide ample opportunities for personal growth and satisfaction, however ridiculous it may sound.
Snoberry of IPL
Though they keep saying that politics should not be mixed with sports but we all know better than that. On most occasions politics dictates sports in our country. And it is politics of 26/11 terror attacks that has forced the govt to direct the bosses of IPL not to pick Pakistani players. Had that not been the case and there was indeed an issue of security of Pakistani players, as brought out by franchisees, IPL should not have included their names in the list of players to be auctioned. In any case security of players was the problem of security forces and not the franchisees. By saying that there were problems on this score are these people implying that our security apparatus was not good enough for these players? Also, may I remind them that attack on international cricketers took place in Pakistan not in India. As you can see the reasons given by them can only be termed as flimsy at best.
Haiti quake- Go to hell!!
I wish to categorically state that lack of response from Indian govt has shown our country in a very poor light, to put it very mildly. In my view it shows what kind of people we are. While we expect the world to listen to us on issues ranging from terrorism to climate change to what have you we are incapable of doing our bit for the poorest people on this planet and are therefore unqualified for any kind of recognition. In light of this lackadaisical and disturbing behavior of the Indian govt quite rightfully the world in general does not support our demands for a permanent seat in the UN. Permanent seat in the UN? My left bloody foot!!!!!!!!!!!
Is it Pakistan vs Hindus?
The basic difference between India and Pakistan is not religion alone. The basic difference is the perception of identities of it's citizens of these two countires by these very people. When Indians talk of Pakistanis they are actually referring to Pakistanis only and not Muslims whereas when Pakis talk of Indians they imply Hindus. That's the basic difference between the people of the two countries. More often than not during debates on TV channels we see the Paki speakers invariably switch from talking about Indo-Pak relations to Hindu-Muslim relationship or lack thereof. By extension since Islam is so deeply ingrained in their psyche they see the problem as being a Hindus versus Pakistan issue whereas this is not the case. As a result there is no meeting ground for the two of us.
Who is the idiot here?
Unlike the main protagonist of the movie Rancho and Hari (in the book) you cannot really succeed in life without being cunning. You have to have a bit of everything. Calibre as well as cunningness. In a way you have to be like the character of Chatur in the movie who was shown as a meritorious and hardworking student who could not see someone else succeed at his cost. Chetan Bhagat is exactly like him. Like in the movie Chatur does everything possible to succeed and be recognized at the same time Chetan too has ensured that his name will always be associated with 3 Idiots for good or bad for all times to come courtesy this smart controversy created by him. Rest assured that his next book will be sold at a much higher price than the stupid ten lakhs that he got for this one.
Babri Demolition: The Gameplan of Congress
No decision taken is a decision in itself. As you would be aware, those words are associated with our former PM PV Narasimha Rao. And these words ring so true for the demolition of Babri Masjid. He decided not to do anything to prevent the demolition not because he was unaware or he was too weak to do anything but because he actually wanted the structure to come down for the sake of Congress more than anything else. He knew that once the structure is gone BJP may seem to be victorious in the short term but eventually they would loose, as we have seen since then. It is for this reason that I say that BJP should not have demolished Babri Masjid. Not because it was incorrect to do so, which it was, but because once the masjid came down they lost a major rallying point on which they could swing public opinion in their favor. With the masjid now gone they do not really have anything which they can use for this purpose. Narasimha Rao saw this while he was 'daydreaming' as correctly put by the Liberhan Commission, but in the wrong context.
Will 2010 be any different than 2009?
Twenty ten sounds so much better than two thousand and nine. Thank god for small mercies. But while all the newspapers and television channels gloss over the year gone by very few have spoken about the challenges that lie ahead of us. Apart from recapitulating the happenings of 2009 I feel it would be in order to take stock of things as they are today and prepare ourselves for the challenges that face the world. Let's check out the three major issues one by one.
Conflicts within Islam
At an ideological level, in recent times Christians don't kill Christians, Hindus don't kill Hindus, Sikhs don't kill Sikhs and Jews don't kill Jews. They may have many ideological differences amongst themselves but they generally do not launch a kind of war on others from their own faiths. Sadly, this is not the case with Islam wherein scores of Muslims are murdered by other Muslims on a daily basis. At the second level you find the Muslims also to be on a warpath with Christians, Jews and Hindus too. Both these struggles have rendered the religion not only weak but also evolutionary bankrupt. There was a time when Islamic civilizations of the Middle East were far ahead of the Western empires of the time. That was the time when the very best in scientific and philosophical works were produced by Muslim thinkers. More tolerance for different religious beliefs could be found in Muslim lands than just about anywhere else on this planet. Just look around now and you'll see that exactly the opposite is true. No creative inventions, works or research can be found forthcoming from Muslim lands. Creativity is being stifled if not being killed.
Should we give autonomy to J&K?
If you really see both these recommendations are contrary to each other. On one hand you say that we should grant them autonomy and on the other you say that a referendum should be held in J&K to decide if and when Article 370 should be removed. I mean whom are you kidding? Autonomy is nothing but an extension of Article 370 itself. By giving autonomy, the resolution of NC clearly implies that, Kashmir would be "affiliated" to India for only defense, currency, foreign affairs and communication. In other words they would have all other powers like stipulating laws, having a separate flag, their own anthem, citizenship and property rights etc etc. Please note that they already have most of these powers by way of Article 370. Autonomy will only make the state govt more powerful on this score, something like 'state within a state'. If you grant them autonomy Article 370 would as it is become redundant in the state. They would enact their own more stringent laws wherein they may deny even Kashmiri pundits their right to own property in the valley. And the govt at the center would not be able to do anything in the matter. So what referendum are we talking about?

Why wait 19 years for six months?
What stupid laws we have in our country! Laws which are broken by the very people who are supposed to protect it. And the stupid law keeps watching helplessly. Actually, it doesn't even watch because it's bloody blind. And deaf, mute and crippled as well. If you have such a crippled law to deliver justice, what else can you expect? No wonder the darn thing took nineteen years to deliver, a warped sentence, I might add. Fact is that the law itself is warped as far as molestation of kids is concerned. Under the present laws a person can be sentenced to a maximum of two years for molestation. It does not specify anything about molestation of a child. Or probably, magistrate Sidhu thought that two years is meant for molestation of a full grown woman and therefore by an extension for a child six months of sentence is enough.

Why didn't US tell us about 26/11?
Americans, on their part have been very cagey about Headley from the very beginning when in August this year reports first started coming in of his arrest. They initially linked him only to a plot to kill a Danish cartoonist. Later on there were reports of Headley's links to LeT. Later still, they said that he was an agent of DEA (US agency which fights the drug menace) but now it has become amply clear that not only was he involved in planning and execution of 26/11 attacks he was also on the payroll of CIA. Another very important reason why I'm getting increasingly convinced about US knowing much more about 26/11 than what they told us is the fact that our team which went to US to meet Headley in connection with his involvement in 26/11 attacks was not allowed to do so even as he was being charged for the same offence which was committed here in India. If this is not bizarre I really wonder what is?

Climate change: Wrong partner
Make no mistake, India is the one who could have shown the way to the developed and developing world but we failed, miserably. On the face of it some of you may say that I'm exaggerating but take a closer look and you'll see that I'm not. Had India not joined hands with China this deal would've been a legally binding one for the all countries of this world. Had we done so, South Africa and Brazil, the other two countries because of whom this deal became non binding, would've reconsidered their decision leaving China absolutely alone in this world. Had it reached that stage who knows China would have agreed, albeit reluctantly. But we did not do so. What's worse is that our own media is gloating over the fact that we made good friends with Chinese on this issue. While there is nothing wrong in having good relations with China, if our aim was to do just that we should have gone to Beijing not Copenhagen. In Copenhagen our first priority was to save this planet which we did not fulfill when we joined hands with China to make this deal non binding. Good friends with China on this issue? My left foot. Its more like partners in crime.
Is Goa rape capital of India?
The disease of trying to malign the victims in cases of rape is actually nothing new. We have seen this crap in so many Bollywood potboilers like Damini etc. And politicians from Goa are pretty good at it. Even in the case of Scarlett Keeling who was murdered in the city politicians tried to paint her mother as a characterless woman who did not take care of her child as a result of which she was raped and murdered. Whether the rapes are part of a plan by a section of Goans to limit the influence of foreigners in Goa or not may not be very clear as of now but I sure have very serious doubts that it is. Well if it is, I must say that this is a very poor plan. Not only is this criminal but it can also backfire. Imagine if Russians strike back at Indian women in Goa themselves or pay other criminals to do this dirty job for them. Like I said, it's a very poor plan. As it is the Goan govt itself feels that Goa is fast becoming the rape capital of the country.

Climate change: Go to hell!!!
The climate may indeed be changing pretty fast but the environment is not. It's still the white man's world like it has been for the past so many centuries gone by, notwithstanding the fact that Barrack Obama has become the president of US. With regard to climate change they might say that they do want to contribute to the world but neither do they want it to be at their expense nor do they want to compensate others for the damage they have done so far and continue to do so. In fact, they want us to develop at a slower rate than we are doing right now. Karl Falkenberg, director general of environment of European Union has said in Copenhagen, "It is important for developing countries to keep on growing but the future growth should not be the same as had happened so far". He goes on to add, "They should use technology to leap frog to a sustainable and non carbon growth".
Gana before Telengana
The entire problem has to be considered holistically. There is no denying the fact that there may be a case of genuine requirement of creating a few more smaller states. You cannot just brush away every other demand with one stroke while you accede to one. Or is it just first come first served basis? I know it sounds crazy but the way Pranab Mukherjee has dismissed the other demands sounds like it is. By saying that this was a very old demand also does not justify this action. I mean, are we deciding this issue based on it's past history or whether it is being done based on the present situation in those regions? It's something like a class teacher openly displaying favoritism towards one student while telling the others to shut up. You can see for yourself how ridiculous the whole things sounds.
Will Congress 'lose' Telengana?
Carving out this state itself may not be that big an issue as that of Hyderabad which is well within the Telangana region and is currently the capital of Andhra Pradesh. There is no way that you can make the state of Telengana with Hyderabad continuing to be a part of 'new' Andhra Pradesh. There may be a few other options also available for this purpose but there are pros and cons with each. For one, Hyderabad may continue to a capital of both Telengana and 'new' Andhra like Chandigarh is for Haryana and Punjab. Unfortunately, like I said, it is well within Telengana region and therefore may not be contiguous to 'new' Andhra.
What Tiger needs to do now?
If you really think about it, Mike Tyson may be a better human being than Tiger Woods. At least he doesn't pretend to be good. He is what he is and we all know it unlike Tiger who pretended to be holier than thou but is actually not. Who would have thought that beneath that cool and calm exterior is a psychotic womanizer. Who would have thought that the person whom we all thought was a thorough gentleman was anything but a gentleman. He may be doing all kinds of charities but having a moral character yourself is more important than doing charitable work.

Five flaws of Obama's Af-Pak policy
When John McCain questioned Robert Gates and Mike Mullen about the date of troop withdrawal given out by Obama as being Jul 11 he was told that the administration would review the situation in Dec 10 and then take a final call. That's rather understandable but in that case why give out this date of withdrawal at all? And that's the first flaw with his strategy. Once you have given these dates Taliban may play a waiting game thereby giving a false picture to the decision making authorities, NATO. As things stand today, they are nowhere close to winning that war. And then to expect them to turn things around to an extent to enable them to start pulling out in just eighteen months is rather naive. Actually, they don't even have eighteen months to achieve that. It's more like seven or eight months because the entire lot of 30,000 troops which Obama announced will only reach Afghanistan by May 10 and the decision will be taken in Dec 10. To expect things to go from what they are right now wherein they need more troops to thinking of pulling out in this short a period is crazy, even for laypersons like you and me. Even if you go by what Gen McChrystal had said wherein he demanded 40,000 more troops and that too without any time line of eighteen months to begin withdrawal goes to show that either Obama's generals are not exactly in sync with him or worse, Obama himself is not in sync with his generals in Afghanistan.

Are these just coincidences or something more?
We all believe in coincidences in our lives. Some more and some less. Sometimes you bump into acquaintances in the markets or sometimes you even come across some distant relative of yours while you are enjoying yourself in the malls. Those are the occasions when you are like- What the hell!! These things happen with everyone and they are rather normal. But sometimes they go beyond the normal. When you have too many coincidences one after the other it is but natural for us to reflect if they were just coincidences or is there a message behind them. This is exactly what happened with me in the last few weeks or so. And they are all related to my blogging experience.
Rotting the stem
"The Safety, Honour and Welfare of your Country come first, always and every time. The Honour, Welfare and Comfort of the Men you command come next. Your Own ease, Comfort and Safety come last, always and every time."
This is not just a sentimental quote but the ethos on which the army actually works. These are words which define the moral fabric of our army. And these are words which drive our officers to achieve what they do when facing the enemy. Unfortunately, when some senior lot reach the level of being a General and when they have long been detached from actual soldiering on ground do we see such scams. This is the lot which over the long period of thirty odd years of their service have forgotten what they learnt in their academy.

What are the rules of gatecrashing?
Gatecrashing is an art or rather a scientific art. Scientific because there are rules for gatecrashing like in science and it's an art because there is definitely a human element to it which one needs to perfect. Oh yes, I would know. I've done it a couple of times. A piece of cake actually if you go by the rules. I know I have this image of a very simple housewife and a blogger but I've had my bit of fun in life. And that's what it was, pure fun.

26/11 is not 9/11
Fact is that there indeed seems to be a concerted effort from many western quarters to shape people's opinion here in India as far as 26/11 is concerned. And Indian Express and Times of India seem to be working on their agenda. Remember the article by Pierre Lavalle published in Times of India on 22nd Nov 09 which I spoke of in the post titled Pardon 26/11? Is there some kind of a coordinated campaign going on by these people or is it because of a exchange of money and favors? I can't say for now but if we keep seeing these kind of write ups you and I will know for sure.

26/11 is history
When 9/11 happened America converted this crisis into an opportunity. They ensured that another 9/11 does not happen again on their territory and they have succeeded. They did not let 9/11 just become history before they dealt with their present. Can we, as Indians let 26/11 just become history without dealing with our present? The question is for all Indians to answer for. And I'm not talking about candle light vigils or some such stuff here.
Thank you Justice Liberhan
Justice Liberhan is a very wise and a mature man. He knew very well the implications of this report. He knew that this report has the potential to create a chaos in the country which can result in lot of bloodshed. And therefore he has said what he had to say but he did it in a manner that while he brought out what all of us already know he has managed to keep it as vague as possible. Yes, he has named Vajpayee and Advani in this report but if you go beyond the obvious there isn't really much. And there is a very deep thought behind this. Can you imagine the chaos in the country if he were to say that Vajpayee, Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi or even Uma Bharti were involved in planning for this demolition? Can you imagine what would've happened in this country if based on this report criminal cases were to be initiated against these people? Just to point out that Barkha Dutt yesterday said on NDTV that she had gone through this leaked report and there was nothing on which you could file a criminal case. And for a change, I believe her.
Pardon 26/11 murderers?
"Without forgiveness, life is governed by an endless cycle of resentment and retaliation." And "The longing for vengeance is like craving for poison." These lines are from an article written by Pierre Lavalle, a Canadian therapist, published in Times of India dated 22 Nov 09. He goes on to say that though it is very difficult for us but we should try and forgive those who carried out these terror attacks in Mumbai last year. Well, it had to come to this someday but it is rather surprising that Times of India published this article within just about an year of the most horrific terrorist attack on our soil. The call first got diluted from an all out war against Pakistan to just action against perpetrators of 26/11, then it got further watered down when Pak govt let go of one perpetrator after another while at the same time giving lip service of all possible help against terrorists even as our govt watched it helplessly and now sections of media within our own country are telling us that we should move on and forgive those murderers altogether, albeit on the prodding of westerners.
The cover story
As for that article itself, its not so much about Palin as it is about Obama. In any case the language they've used is beyond the comprehension of Sarah Palin or her translators. It is now pretty clear why she has not taken exception to the article or the title even as she has objected to this picture. Well, I have one more theory about this article. May be this was sponsored by Palin herself along with her publisher Harper Collins in order to promote her book GOING ROGUE. Newsweek on its part 'obliged' her but chose what to write (after all they have a reputation to protect) and which picture to use. Palin cannot really take exception to all of it because its working. Even her exception to the cover photo has helped generate sales. And her book is selling like hot cakes. Remember, she has a mischievous streak and has gone rogue too, in her own words?

Take a BOW!!!!
Given the rate at which Barrack Obama is bowing in front of monarchs I'm really sacred about his back. First to the Saudi King and now to Emperor Akihito. I hope he has consulted his doctors while indulging in this back breaking exercise. I mean we can't really have an American President with a broken back. Can we? His planners too have to be really careful so as not to include more than one meeting with a monarch in one visit. I mean one BOW is okay but BOW BOW is bad and BOW BOW BOW is disaster. It also conveys a very different meaning which I'm sure Obama would not like. Nonetheless by now Obama has actually perfected this 'art'. So much so that he can now do it better than the Japanese. A perfect perpendicular BOW because of which Emperor Akihito could possibly read the label stitched at the back of Obama's collar. But do you guys know why Obama keeps doing a BOW so often? That's because he is Barrack Obama and Wife. That's the real reason. Well, alright I admit. That's a stupid joke. Just the same I wonder how Michelle Obama feels when she watches her husband doing all that bowing, one after the other. Thankfully for him there's one monarch less in this world for him to bow to, Nepal.

Muslim state within India?
Its not a question of if that happens but more of a question of when that happens. It will pave the way for establishment of a Muslim fundamentalist hub right here in the heart of India, bordering Delhi. What do you think happens when a whole lot of poor people from one community come to live together under not only one political but physical space as well? They are the breeding grounds of all kinds illegal and anti national activities.
How did media beat recession?
I was so horribly wrong when I wrote this post on Cash for Votes scam in our parliament and the sting operation conducted by CNN IBN Rajdeep Sardesai is for sale!! in Nov 08. Its not just him who is up for sale most of the news channels and newspapers are up for sale too. Rajdeep Sardesai did nothing which is not done by the media houses. And I'm not talking about a stake sale in their respective companies. I'm talking about the news content which they carry. Yes, it has been proved beyond doubt now that indeed they do sell their space for money. As luck would have it there were quite a few elections in 2009. First it was the Lok Sabha polls and then state assembly elections in not one but four states. Not too forget many other sources like numerous movie releases, book launches etc etc. And they are all sources of good unaccountable money for our media houses.

Talibanisation of Maharashtra
Kamleshwar, the late Hindi writer and commentator once said," Kitne Pakistan". How many Pakistans do we have within India? He was so right. Pakistan is right here inside us, meaning that we are our own worst enemies. Even as we keep hearing of discrimination against people from North East, subjugation of Muslims in Gujarat or other such biases MNS took this enmity to a completely new level when they assaulted Abu Azmi of SP in the legislative assembly for taking his oath in Hindi. The bias itself may not be anything new but the way it came to the fore it was a brutal slap on the faces of all right minded Indians. For me it signifies the beginning of Talibanisation of Maharashtra where you could see them trying to impose their brand of Maharashtra on others.
Is Vande Mataram unislamic
Nobody worships his or her motherland like they do for their Gods. I mean you have temples, mosques, gurudwaras and churches where you worship your God. But do you have anything like BHARAT MATA KA MANDIR? No, you don't. If you do, it's pooja for your country not of your country. Vande Mataram is just a figure of speech which has propelled patriotic fervor in the hearts of millions of Indians. We don't have to take it literally. Even if you take it literally, does Vande only mean worship? Does it imply the same as worshiping our Gods?
Should we give more
When did you guys last see party MPs cutting across party lines for anything? Let me refresh your memories. It was when they asked for a pay raise for themselves. Well, they have come together again. This time they want Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) allocation to be increased from Rs 2 Crore per year to Rs 10 Crore per year. They say that they can't achieve anything in this paltry amount. It's far too less. I agree.

Sign of America's failure
There are two facets of this issue. The first is that you cannot really expect Karzai to sack the very man who nearly gave the president's chair to him as a gift. The second issue is that once the US and UN had acknowledged the massive fraud which took place earlier they should have endorsed this demand of Dr Abdullah.

Queen Elizabeth should wear a burqa
If guys who said this believe in Sharia so strongly why don't they impose it first in all the Muslim countries of the world? If their own Muslim brethren don't agree with them then why don't they just shut up or even better, go back to wherever they came from. At least that way the other peace loving Muslims living in UK can live in peace. In the meanwhile they can be thankful to Britain and it's Queen for not throwing them and their ilk into jail for talking crap.

Kashmir is not that important
What the Pakistani people and their govt fail to understand is that terror attacks within Pakistan which are killing hundreds day in and day out have got nothing to do with Kashmir or India for that matter. These attacks are however a direct fallout of America-Pak relations or lack thereof. This visit which could have been utilized by Pak to gain more trust and favor with Americans did exactly the opposite forcing Hillary to say

One third of India lost
Over the period of last few decades while Naxalism was gaining ground the authorities did not appreciate the kind of challenge this would come to pose. Even the successive central govts while being duly concerned with Kashmir ignored the situation in these areas. During this time not only did Maoists manage to gain ground they also graduated from being an ideology driven groups to someone akin to terrorists. It is only because violence in Kashmir has abated to a very large extent that atrocities of Maoists are now coming into focus.
India needs Raj Thakeray
BANG BANG BANG BANG!!!!!!!! It was 7 AM Thursday, 22nd October. Election results. Where was the remote? Where did I leave it last night? Holy shit! Aleena was sleeping on the remote. And the damn thing was wet. Aleena had done susu over it. Goddamnit!!!! Can't help it. I wiped it clean and switched on the TV. Dish TV welcomes you!! Bullshit, get lost. Where was Times Now? There it was.
Loosing my religion
At some point or the other each one of us must have asked these questions to oneself: Is my religion the correct one to follow? Why are there so many religions in this world with each one 'seemingly' out to destroy the others? Which one of these is the best? Why was I born in the religion that I was? If indeed there is one God then why are there so many different faiths which give vastly different interpretations to the truths of life? Why did God let this happen, if there is indeed a God?
Give me a Gandhi
Whatever the Mahatma preached was nothing new to start with. Non violence and compassion have always been an integral part of Hinduism. We all grow up learning these values but over a period of time we get so involved in our day to day lives that we forget what we've learnt. They were just rediscovered by him so as to unite us against the British. He managed to shake the conscience of hundreds and thousands of Indians by focusing on those three things- non violence, compassion and equality. And we did become conscious of all these virtues while he was alive. The nationalist fervor that he whipped up created a country out of a colony.
Why do I hate Delhi
P Chidambaram was being very decent when he recently said that Delhiites need to behave themselves. What he actually meant was that most Delhiites are one hell of a crude self centered lot who need to be taught a few lessons in good behaviour. He is dead right. They are indeed all that and more. And most Delhiites don't just need lessons in good behaviour but a few kicks on the backside. As they say- laton ke bhoot baton se nahin mante.

What do we make of Narendra Modi
Whenever there is a talk of Narendra Modi, most of us, depending on which side of the political and religious divide we belong to, conjure up two different pictures of him. One is of a person who played a major role during Gujarat riots and the second one is of a leader who is now the guiding force behind the rapid development and modernization of state of Gujarat. There is yet another group of people who have not yet made up their minds as to whether they want to hate him or love him or neither.

Music vs Islam
When I first saw Musharraf singing Raag Darbari along with Ustad Hamid Ali Khan I was rather amused. I mean we didn't know that Musharraf could sing and that too with a professional singer. Believe you me it is indeed a treat to watch. Had BJP known about this they might as well have organized something similar when he came to India way back in 2001and may be the result of that summit could have been different than what it was.
Next terrorist attack may be round the corner
At the outset let me clarify that this is neither run of the mill routine statement nor is it meant to create any panic amongst Indians. This is a feeling which I get after considering all the developments within India and in the Af-Pak region as well. Like I said there is no need to panic but there is definitely a need to be aware of the situation and people around us. Now here are the reasons why I make this stupid prediction.
Thank God I was not born in China
Yeah, I thank the lord for not bringing me into this world through the Chinese route. They may be doing very well economically but I shudder to think what life must be out there. The first thing that strikes me is that had I been born in China I would not have been allowed to do this- blogging. And had I persisted I would have been behind bars by now.
Babri demolition report is irrelevant now
Seventeen years is a pretty long time. During this period a generation grows up, another generation grows old while yet another dies. In my opinion this issue belonged to the previous generation which is being kept young and alive by our politicians. If our political and judicial system takes seventeen god damned years to find out who was responsible, which we all know in any case, it's ridiculous to say the very least. Liberhan Commission should have been scrapped at least a decade ago, if not more.
Burn the Burqa
Can any of you imagine women working in corporate offices wearing a Burqa? Can you imagine women fighting elections wearing a Burqa? Can you imagine a woman flying an airplane wearing a Burqa? Can you imagine a woman playing golf wearing a Burqa? Can you imagine a woman teaching in college wearing a Burqa? Can you imagine a woman doing military service wearing a Burqa? Can you imagine a Prime Minister or a President or just an ordinary minister wearing a Burqa?
We all are racists here
While we all talk of racism we coolly ignore the issue of casteism within India. Now, you guys may question that there is a difference. You may say that racism is not the same as casteism in India. But tell you what, I don't think so. I feel they are one and the same thing. Yes, there's a physical aspect to racism in the sense that in racism, discrimination is based on the color of your skin and how you look. But it's still discrimination. It's implications are the same.
Keep the faith
According to Sikhism no one, not even the Akal Takht which is the supreme holy body of Sikhs can declare any Sikh or group heretical or blasphemous. So those who perpetrated this crime in Vienna are going against their very own religion. But that's just the philosophical part of this whole thing which in any case no one is interested in. All they are interested in is money and power that goes with these various gurudwaras and sects.
Why will Obama fail in Iran?
Yes, Obama will fail in Iran. There is no doubt about this. And that too for no fault of his. It's just that that he has become the President at the wrong time. Iran is too far ahead in it's nuclear program to consider stopping it now.
Indian neighbours burning!!!
They say that you can't change your neighbors. They also say that if your neighbors are developing so will you and if they are peaceful so will you be. But unfortunately, in India's case they are anything but peaceful. Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka and now Bangladesh are all burning. When the fires burning in these countries are so strong and fierce how can India remain unaffected by all this? It surely has spilled over pretty fast and is now threatening to consume India as well.
Pakistan's deal with terrorists is justified
Yeah, that’s right in my opinion the Pak army and their Govt may be justified in striking a deal with terrorists. I’m sure you guys are surprised, to say the very least. And that too coming from an Indian? I gotta be crazy to say something like this. But read again, I say that they may be justified in striking a deal. I never said that it is the correct thing to do. Get the difference between these two things? Even if you don’t, just read on. I have some very solid reasons to say all this.

Should India attack Pakistan?
I had initially written this post on 22 Dec 08 after Mumbai attacks. Ever since this post has been the most popular post on the blog. Also, its still a very relevant subject given the fact that not much has changed after this. And so I decided not only to renew it but also add my thoughts as I feel today. So here goes-
"My heart says YES. Pakistan is one country who has been sponsoring terror not just in India but throughout the world. The Pakistani govt may deny it's involvement in terror attacks but the fact
Come cry with me, my countrymen
I’m weeping today, literally. I'm weeping because our polity can still not come together to fight this monster. I'm weeping because I know our leaders will go back to their routine of stupid rhetoric and no action in a few months from now.
