Insecurities of my angel!!
May 29th, 2008We have been preparing my six year old for her forthcoming sibling, and so far she is quite excited and has her own plans as to how she will contribute in welcoming the new-born. She has kept away few of her toys, books, clothes and assorted things for the baby, which she wishes to share. And at times, she tells me that she is going to take care of the baby so that I need to only look after her.
Her baby world is full of contradictions. She has a friend, who’s just had a little sister and he probably shared his problems with her, which has made her a wee bit doubtful and insecure. She came to me one day and asked if I’ll have time for her once the baby arrived? I wondered why she felt that way suddenly and then she told me that her friend’s mom was always busy with the baby and had no time for him. I hugged her and reassured her that I’ll always have time for her and we’ll take care of the baby together.
Well! This is a sure sign of what’s coming my way and I’ll have long emotionally and physically trying days ahead of me. But I’ll try and be more sensitive towards my first-born as she is truly special to me and her little world has to be kept far from the worries that keep visiting her about her baby brother/sister, taking away her special place from her parent’s love. I assure you my darling you will always be our little angel who came into our lives with lot of happiness and love. So…smile and don’t worry.

Your daughter is absolutely correct in feeling this way. I too faced the same situation when our second child was due. Be careful, and by the way your daughter looks very cute. All the best.

I'm quite sure that now that you've realized this you will be able to handle it successfully. Also, even now you must keep your kid happy and excited about your next child. Ensure that she has no fears whatsoever.
