Mulayam’s true colours
March 25th, 2010
There is a new twist in the Women’s Reservation Bill. If you believe Mulayam Singh the bill will lead to more crimes against women, in the Parliament of all the places in the world. Yeah, thats right. He says that since now there will more women in our Parliament, quite possibly from good backgrounds who will be well groomed and well dressed, it is but natural that there will be cat calls and whistling from the male members to greet these women. WOW!!!! What a logic, Mr Mulayam Singh.
And by the way, anyone who thought that this was just an off the cuff remark which has been blown out of proportion, Mulayam has today clarified that this was a well thought of deliberate remark. He actually meant the damn thing. He wanted to create this cheap controversy knowing fully well what the reactions would be. So here are some.
Firstly, I’m not so sure that all women who come to the next Parliament will be from good backgrounds and will be well dressed and well groomed. There will surely be some women from poor sections of the society as well. Secondly, even if they are does it mean that being well dressed and well groomed is a reason for anyone to eve tease them? And that too by none other than our chosen representatives in Parliament? Well, I don’t think so. I guess Mulayam is speaking for himself here. It is him possibly who has these urges whenever he sees smartly turned out beautiful women. Let me just remind him that his daughter-in-law who contested and lost in the last elections is also one beautiful smart woman. For all you know she might be one of those women who get into Parliament through this bill next time around. Will he also feel like whistling at his own daughter-in-law? I wonder what he has to say to that.
This is the same Mulayam Singh who said that he supported women’s reservation but there should be separate quotas for Dalits and Muslims in this bill. Well, if that be so does it mean that only well dressed women deserve to be eve teased? Is it that Dalit and Muslim women are not good enough or is it that since Mulayam is partial to these communities, he will take care not to whistle at women from these communities. That’s discrimination, of a different kind though. If he feels like eve teasing he should not discriminate between communities. Should he? He should eve tease them all, Jaya Prada and his daughter-in-law included. Ridiculous chap!!!
To be candid, this is not the only stupid comment that this gentleman (???????) has made on this issue. A little while back he had said that in fifteen years time there would be only one percent male members left in Lok Sabha. The logic he gave was that once a woman got elected from a particular constituency she will not vacate it even when it becomes de-reserved and since every time 33 percent seats will be reserved, after three elections for Lok Sabha they would be occupying 99 percent of the seats. Fantastic, I must say. You cannot really fault Mulayam Singh on his mathematics. His logic may be a different story. Further, he says that this is an ‘international conspiracy’ by the Congress. Frankly, I really fail to the see the international angle in this, unless Mulayam was referring to Sonia’s Italian origins. HMMM!!!
Suffice to say that when Mulayam and Lalu said that they support women’s reservation but wanted a separate quota for Dalits and Muslims, it was nothing but hogwash. They just don’t want women to get any quotas, Dalits and Muslim women included. They spoke of his support for women’s reservation because that’s politically correct. How can they say openly that they’re against reservation for women. Dalits and Muslims are only being used as excuses to hide behind this basic fact. And all the stupid comments being made by Mulayam now only prove this and are meant to force Congress to abandon the bill. The question is - Will they? I hope not.

His son needs a nose job. He does not suit his wife. Apart from that I don't think I have anything to comment on speeches of people like Mulayam.

Mulayam is a typical MCP of a politician who is a perfect example of what a politician should not be.
His son Akhilesh is a scared rat who was supposed to speak in parliament but got shit scared at the last moment. If these are the kind of men who grace our parliament it is better that we have women instead or may be even eunuchs. I remember you having written something about them earlier.

Sush, it is widely known that both Mulayam and Lalu are Jokers in the pack. While Lalu plays it out for the benefit of the media and public alike, Mulayam is discreet in his acts. This could also possibly be because of his inferiority complex. I remember my brother-in-law, a decorated air force officer telling me that if the day came that army chiefs had to salute defense ministers, a practice that Mulayam frantically tried to bring about when he held the portfolio, there would have been a revolt against him or even perhaps a doctored assasination. Shaan's observation could well apply for Mulayam too - he has one big long one sticking out from his face!

And great observation on Mulayam and his nose. I wonder how did I miss this point, both in respect of Mulayam and his son Akhilesh.
