We are suffering at the hands of the law which has given sacred powers to the police which misuses it in abundance. I believe that about 70% – 80% of the time, police misuses its powers as vested by the constitution and common man has to suffer. For instance I recall the shameful incidence of Delhi Police when they framed a mason (to take revenge) in 18 different cases out of which one was of ‘rape’. After a battle of around 15 years he was cleared of 13 cases and Delhi High Court felt the need to rescue and provide some sort of relief to the aggrieved. Hon’ble Dr. Justice S. Murlidhar awarded a compensation of Rs. 6 Lacs (approx.) for the trauma and torture the mason had gone through. But I feel this was not enough. Damages were paid off in civil nature but what about the criminal damages like jail term of 6 years and mental trauma and physical assault? In my view such police officers ought to have been punished with imprisonment of at least 6 months each, whoever was involved including DCP who challenged the acquittal of the poor mason and even went to an extent of firing & flaunting his position to the lower court judge who exonerated the mason.

Kamleshwar, the late Hindi writer and commentator once said,” Kitne Pakistan”. How many Pakistans do we have within India? He was so right. Pakistan is right here inside us, meaning that we are our own worst enemies. Even as we keep hearing of discrimination against people from North East, subjugation of Muslims in Gujarat or other such biases MNS took this enmity to a completely new level when they assaulted Abu Azmi of SP in the legislative assembly for taking his oath in Hindi. The bias itself may not be anything new but the way it came to the fore it was a brutal slap on the faces of all right minded Indians. For me it signifies the beginning of Talibanisation of Maharashtra where you could see them trying to impose their brand of Maharashtra on others.

With elections in five states round the corner the swords are being drawn now. The first assault in the run up to these elections has been delivered by Mayawati, and on Sonia and quite directly at that.

Okay, of all the TV networks which one was the best debate on match fixing? Well, for me it was the one on Times Now where our dear old Bishen Singh Bedi appeared half drunk. At first it seemed like I was mistaken but when he started talking I was more than convinced that he was indeed three or four drinks down, at least. A couple of drinks more and I'm sure Bedi would've told Arnab Goswami," Oye, Chadd Yaar. Tainu Kee? Aye koi nai gall thodi hai. Salon se ho raya hega. CHEERS!!" or words to that effect. But you can't really blame Bedi for this. What do you expect people to be doing at nine in the evening? Good people work through the day and party in the evenings. Don't they? For that matter, Farouq Engineer who was speaking from Manchester, UK where it was around four thirty in the evening, was seen having a huge cup of coffee (or at least that's my guess) because you are supposed to have coffee at that time......
