If khap panchayats have their way same gotra marriages should be made illegal. If indeed this amendment goes through, same gotra marriage between two Hindus will be illegal whereas marriage between a Hindu and a Muslim/Christian/Jew or a person of any other faith would be perfectly legal. Or by that analogy inter religion marriages will also need to be made illegal. And that includes the one between Sonia and Rajiv Gandhi (OOOOPS!!!). By extension it will also imply that marriages between a Christian and Muslim or between individuals belonging to any two different non Hindu religions will also need to be made illegal.

Normally, it would not be correct to talk about anyone’s personal choices. But that’s normally. Firstly, Sania Mirza is not like any normal citizen of India. She’s a sports celebrity and secondly, she’s not marrying any Tom, Dick or Harry either. She’s marrying a Pakistani cricketer whose credentials are questionable, not just personally but professionally as well. Frankly speaking, no one in the country would have given a damn if Shoaib was marrying an unknown Indian girl, even if it was Ayesha Siddiquee (again) for that matter. Sadly, it is not so.

Rakhi Sawant has chosen Elesh Parujanwala from among the last three to be her life partner. Finally, the suspense is over. But guess what? She did not marry him as she was supposed to yesterday. Instead it was just an engagement ceremony after she chose Elesh. Why did she develop cold feet at the last moment?

Life is an absolute ‘bitch’. A bit more for some and may be a bit less for others. And we all grow up learning how to deal with this ‘bitch’. Some of us are able to tame her while for others life continues to be ‘bitchy’. Rakhi Sawant, it seems has learnt her lessons from this ‘bitch’ all too well. To the extent that she herself now seems to be a ‘bitch’ incarnated.

Amongst all the chaos created by the Indian Cricket Team and Shiney Ahuja we nearly missed this one about Begum Fiza. Remember, she created a big furore when Chand Mohammad just dumped her and vanished. There were reports that she even tried to commit suicide. Off course, she recovered and then called for press conferences where she read out love messages stored on her phone.

How stupid can a women be? And we are talking about a well educated govt servant and an Assistant Attorney General to boot! Did she really expect Chander Mohan or Chand Mohammad to give up his high profile job, snap all ties with his super rich family and lead a life of penury with her? If she did she must have been living in a fool’s paradise, which, I’m sure she has realized by now.

Some of our politicians have provoked these incidents. Others have fueled fire in them and there some others like Vilasrao Deshmukh who have done their bit by just keeping quiet when they were supposed to speak up. I mean when things were so bad in Maharashtra Vilasrao Deshmukh was just a mute spectator from his hometown in Latur.

Maharashtra is ahead of our times it seems. Or may be the rest of us are still living in the dark ages. And that’s because we still feel that living in is not exactly the right thing to do. Making it legal will only encourage people to indulge in it. And we can all blame Maharashtra for this.

Out of hundreds of allegations of fake encounter deaths why is the focus of our entire nation on Sohrabuddin and Amit Shah? Is it because a fake encounter of a Muslim is a different story than that of a Hindu? And that too because it happened in Narendra Modi's Gujarat? Why is the CBI investigating only this case and not so many others where the guilty are quite likely from the Congress party? What about numerous allegations of fake encounters in Andhra Pradesh? What about the prosecution of Jagdish Tytler and Sajjan Kumar in Sikh riots case? What about Ottavio Quattrochi?.....
