The appointment of Nitin Gadkari as president of BJP shows that if we were all looking for a change in the party the appointment of Gadkari does not seem to be that change. For those of us who were indeed looking for a change in BJP ideology with another RSS man at the helm of it’s affairs I really wonder how different can he be from the rest. What BJP required was to associate themselves with the middle class of India who is more secular and for whom RSS does not mean a thing. Frankly with another RSS man as president I don’t really see that happening. Also, for those who say RSS interference in internal affairs of BJP should be minimum it is again very difficult for me to visualize Gadkari doing anything which RSS does not approve of. Another related and a very important issue is the discrimination of members of the party based on their association with RSS or rather lack of it, as we saw during the Jaswant Singh episode when he was sacked but Arun Shourie who openly challenged the BJP leadership on numerous occasions, was not. Quite possibly because Jaswant Singh had nothing to do with RSS whereas Shourie has everything to do with it. And to expect an RSS man who is new to the chair to correct this wrong would be rather naive on our part.

As for that article itself, its not so much about Palin as it is about Obama. In any case the language they’ve used is beyond the comprehension of Sarah Palin or her translators. It is now pretty clear why she has not taken exception to the article or the title even as she has objected to this picture. Well, I have one more theory about this article. May be this was sponsored by Palin herself along with her publisher Harper Collins in order to promote her book GOING ROGUE. Newsweek on its part ‘obliged’ her but chose what to write (after all they have a reputation to protect) and which picture to use. Palin cannot really take exception to all of it because its working. Even her exception to the cover photo has helped generate sales. And her book is selling like hot cakes. Remember, she has a mischievous streak and has gone rogue too, in her own words?

By asking for her pound of flesh in return for being a rubber stamp President Pratibha Patil has indeed set a wrong precedent. No other President has ever done that. They have all been above all this, as they should’ve been. For Pratibha Patil, well, all I can say is wrong precedent by the wrong President.

Barrack Obama needs to be more patient about his media eloquence. He needs to reconsider all the pros and cons before he hits the deck. Otherwise people in America may get this impression that making a black man the President was a mistake in the first place.

In today’s Times Of India there is an article wherein they say that frisking of Dr Kalam is a trivial issue. Well, what do you say to that now? I thought media is the agency which speaks what is correct but I guess I was wrong. Or may be I’m the one who is wrong about the whole thing. May be we should accept all this because we don’t want to offend anyone. May be we should bow our heads before them in submission every time we come across them. May be

‘Pakistan has been treated unequally by the US’. That’s what General Pervez Musharraf said when he spoke to CNN’s Wolf Blitzer on the role of Pakistan in the ‘war on terror’. He goes on to add that US abandoned Pakistan after Russians were forced out of Afghanistan in 1989. Well, come to think of it, that’s partly true. Isn’t it? After their aim was achieved US just left these guys with all the Mujaheedin and all the weapons that were given to them to fight the Russians.

After all the euphoria dies down following Barack Obama’s election as the President of USA it is actually time for each one of us to try and understand the implications of this historic event. First things first. In the immediate future there is only one thing which will dominate the proceedings

Among other things there is a very strong feeling amongst McCain’s managers that Palin is not bothered about elections in 2008, she’s actually preparing the ground for herself in 2012. Why am I not surprised by this? I believe these guys. She’s a pretty shrewd manipulative woman. She knows for sure that her chances this time around are next to nothing.

Republican Party seems to be falling apart. Their campaign is in absolute disarray. Even the die hard Republicans like Colin Powell have switched sides.

Yeah, I was right. All the polls are saying that Biden won hands down. Its not surprising at all. He had to. You can’t beat an experienced man like Biden at his own game. And most definitely not by a rookie like Palin.

I really wonder on what grounds are Lalus and Mulayams protesting against the Women's Bill. Their argument, is unconvincing and shaky. Even ideally, if for a moment, we think that poor Dalit women were to be indeed elected I'd damned if our highest governing bodies were to be made up of women who are absolutely illiterate and work as maids or do some such menial jobs. I really do not have anything against them but they do not have the aptitude or ability for this job, not as of now at least. As for my maid, I'm thankful to God if she completes my household chores satisfactorily, leave aside managing the country. .....
